Asbestos Cancer scheme case facts

Mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the lung. It is a fatal diagnosis. Our client Mr W started to suffer with difficulties in 2017.  Following investigations including biopsies he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in November 2014.  He knew that he had been exposed to asbestos as a younger man from 1958 to 1968 at a factory in South Wales.  Each day he cut asbestos sheets as part of his job as a machine setter. He moved from the area and had no contacts or witnesses who could help the claim.

Mr W contacted Corries on 19^th January 2018 in response to an advert. We quickly established the facts and knew we needed to act swiftly so we got his H M Revenue work schedule.

We discussed his work schedule and made searches into his former employers.  It was found that they have long since dissolved. Back up enquiries to find an insurer or company drew a blank.

Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme (DMPS)

The DMPS is a scheme which pays compensation for people who suffer asbestos cancer but have no company nor employer to meet the claim.  This scheme applies were such companies are dissolved and no insurance can be traced.

The case still needed to be proved and satisfactory evidence given to the claims handlers.

The case was lodged by 16th March. It was acknowledged and with brief queries quickly answered by us it was then accepted within three weeks.

Within three days the cheque for £145, 960 less the benefits Mr W had claimed was paid to him.
