What can I claim compensation for after a road accident?
The injuries that you have suffered as a result of the accident. You may also need to take time off work to recover which means you have a loss of income. You may also have increased travel costs, through being unable to drive. The following are claims that can be made after a road accident :
● Repair your vehicle, or its replacement if it's badly damaged.
● Additional travel expenses whilst your own vehicle is off-road.
● Hire a car whilst your own vehicle is off-road.
● Loss of earnings.
● Injury compensation.
● Medical expenses such as prescription charges.
What are common road traffic accidents?
The most common road accidents are :
● Rear-end collisions
● Collisions at junctions or roundabouts
● Lane-changing collisions
● Overtaking
● Roundabout accidents
● Speeding accidents
● Reversing accidents
● Failing to indicate
Arguments about who is to blame can arise even in the most straightforward accident circumstances. In some cases, both parties can be partly at fault. Even if you are partly at fault you should still be able to claim compensation although the amount will be less.
How much compensation will I get after a road accident?
Every individual has different circumstances, and claims can include :
● Injury compensation.
● The cost of repairing your vehicle.
● The cost of a new vehicle if your old one cannot be repaired.
● Travelling expenses whilst your own vehicle is off-road, e.g bus fares etc.
● Loss of earnings.
● Medical expenses such as prescription charges etc.
The amount of compensation that you could obtain depends on the individual circumstances of each case.

After the child has turned eighteen they can choose to pursue a claim themselves before the age of twenty-one.
What do I do after a road accident?
If you or anyone else involved has been injured you must exchange details with the other driver. Also, collect details of any witnesses. Also, take photos and video footage from the scene of the accident and any injuries sustained.
You must also report the accident to the police within 24 hours.
Can I claim for a road accident that was partly my fault?
Yes, you can although the damages you receive will be reduced. This is called ‘contributory negligence’. For example, if you are 50% responsible then your damages will be reduced by 50%.
