ICI and Asbestos – the history

This was the case with the now late Mr D. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma. He made enquiries on the internet and wanted a Yorkshire based solicitor to fight his case. Our Director and Asbestos team Manager Howard Bonnett was approached and agreed to take on the case.

The asbestos mesothelioma case progress

First of all we went out to see the client. He had worked as part of a team at ICI Wilton in two spells from 1957 to 1962 and then 1966 to 1977. He was exposed to asbestos in various ways. Our network of similar cases helped us form and present his evidence to ICI’s insurers.

Within three months of instruction we had the case ready and put it to ICI. Their insurers and solicitors got on board and within six weeks admitted the claim and made an interim payment of £50,000. Consequently they agreed to make a final offer a short while later.

The final chapter

Sadly Mr D’s health deteriorated as is common with mesothelioma victims. We pushed and pressed the defendants and got an offer for the claim worth £250,000.

We advised Mr D and he agreed to settlement and the order to secure compensation. He was too ill to be offered any medical treatment.

We saw that both Mr D and his wife took great comfort knowing that the case had been settled. He took great solace from knowing he had put his affairs in order for his wife and family.
